IntroductionThe InterNICHE Alternatives Loan System is an evolving library of multimedia CD-ROMs, videos, models and mannequins. It covers fields such as anatomy, physiology and surgery. Teachers and students from anywhere in the world can borrow items from the Loan System to trial them. This gives you the opportunity to familiarise yourself with some of the best products available. All items in the Loan System have been chosen with reference to meeting teaching objectives for practical classes where animals are used harmfully in some university departments, or to shift the emphasis away from the invasive animal lab towards alternative approaches. Many of the products have individually or in combination with other tools and approaches already replaced harmful animal use. It is often teachers who have developed the products themselves in order to better the learning environment for their students.Products are listed by discipline, then medium, and finally alphabetically. Details of each product can usually be found by clicking on the link to the producer. Note that InterNICHE does not produce or sell these products. To contact the producers themselves please click on the links. If you make a purchase later, please mention InterNICHE - thanks. BorrowingTo borrow an item, please contact Monika Percic at this address: loansystem@interniche.org. Borrowing periods are usually for up to 6 weeks. You will be asked for full contact details, and a reference name and address. Borrowing is free - you just pay the return postage. If the product is damaged or not returned at all, you will be invoiced. Products must not be copied. There are practical limitations on where some items can be sent, and borrowers from the United States and Canada are requested to check their regional organisations・loan systems first for the same products. FeedbackBoth InterNICHE and the producers would appreciate feedback from teachers and students on the products. This can help with tailoring current products and developing new ones. Most products are designed for undergraduate-level university education. Some can also be used at high-school and are labelled H. Unless otherwise stated, all products are in English, all CD-ROMs are for MS=Windows and MacOS, and the format of videos is PAL VHS (European format) Disciplines and ProductsAnaesthesiologySee also Clinical / Surgery CD-ROMsIllustrating the stages of anaesthesia and effects of anaesthetics on the rat The principles of mechanical ventilation in veterinary clinical anaesthesia AnatomySee also PhysiologyCD-ROMs Digital anatomy of the human Face Osteology of the dog, with selected clinical conditions (Mac) Virtual reality dissection of the Cat Dissection of the Cat Detailed comparative anatomy Dissection and histology of the Rat Digital morphology of the Frog (available soon) Dissection and identification of canine muscles, covering techniques and instruments Views and techniques to expose nerves and related structures in the dog H Dissection of the Frog, Fetal Pig, Earthworm, Crayfish, and Perch Osteology of the equine thoracic and pelvic limbs (Mac) H Virtual reality dissection of the Frog (includes the Worm) 494 images of dogs, cats, horses, cows, pigs, goats, birds, salamanders, frogs, fish, and ferrets Macroscopic and microscopic muscle anatomy/physiology (Mac) Real image virtual reality microscopic anatomy H Dissection and ecology of the Frog Anatomy, physiology and histology of the Dogfish Shark Anatomy, physiology and histology of the Frog Virtual reality anatomy of the human heart Anatomy, physiology and histology of the Pigeon Anatomy, physiology and histology of the Rat Canine heart anatomy (Mac) Dissected and plastinated body of a Frog Dissected and plastinated body of a Rat Teachers demonstrating innovative products (Anatomy section) (PAL, NTSC) H Anatomy of the Fetal Pig (PAL, NTSC) (available soon) Dissection and identification of canine muscles, with comments on techniques and instruments Dissections and techniques for exposing nerves and related head structures H Dissection of the mussel Detailed dissection of the crab Anatomy of the Dogfish Shark (English PAL, Spanish PAL and Spanish NTSC) Anatomy of the Frog (English PAL, Spanish PAL and Spanish NTSC) Anatomy of the Pigeon (English PAL, Spanish PAL and Spanish NTSC) Anatomy of the Rat (English PAL, Spanish PAL and Spanish NTSC) Animal behaviourCD-ROMs H
